In a somewhat related tangent:

I don’t know if Marvel has a similar system, but DC has the multi-verse.  Which is basically a way for accounting for all the numerous inconsistencies between various stories.  So what may seem a contradiction between stories, may in fact be occurring in another universe entirely.

There’s no reason that there shouldn’t be a black spider-man.
