Why purple?

Time to answer rhetorical questions yo!

Purple is the color of regality, and most of the villains who wear it are either royals, nobility, or very wealthy.  It’s also the strongest wavelength in the rainbow (the next wavelength up is UV which is harmful to humans), and most of the villains are after power of some sort.  Finally, and this really only applies to a few of them, it symbolizes magic and the supernatural, so it makes sense for the witches and sorcerers to wear it.

also, you’ll notice that the colors very often put with purple, especially when magic is involved, are green and orange—the triad of secondary colors. they are often used in opposition to their literal opposites, the triad of primary colors yellow, red, and blue. while the secondary colors, made from mixing primaries, are often used to symbolize the mysterious and villainous, the primaries are often used as “hero colors” (just look at superman or wonder woman, for example) which works quite well symbolically seeing as in subtractive color theory they are the purest of hues from which all others are made.

Or to put it in simpler terms,

purple is evil.
