I think it was something like 15 bucks? The refills are like 6 for a pack of 2 I think, but I got a whole bunch a long time ago so I can’t remember. It’s a piece of cake to refill. It’s nice, it’s not as nice as a brush and ink, but I’m really hard on my tools and honestly this has lasted longer than most brushes I’ve bought (maybe because I don’t have to worry about cleaning it)
As an aside, I fill my pocket pentel with Rapidograph ink (both dark and waterproof when dry)
Any ink that’s made for fountain pens is usually good for brush pens. This is because the carbon used to make the ink is ground up fine so that it won’t get stuck inside the pen (unlike regular india ink, which will muck up any pen you try to use it in)
Some inks can also dye based, but they are usually non-waterproof.
Pentel Pocket is a really nice brush to start out with. The Kuretake no. 8 brush pen is also really nice. It has just a bit more spring to it, more like using a real brush. I’d still recommend the Pentel first though. You have to practice to learn brush control, and the extra firmness is really nice when you’re just beginning to learn.
