wait?? how is pearl abusive? so far what ive seen shes just really jealous, short tempered and salty at times?

mycelia-xerula:

THATS WHAT IM SAYING!!! People are calling her “abusive” and as an abuse survivor who relates to Pearl its like. Real annoying.

Mostly people are calling Pearl abusive because of how she was training Connie, which was abusive behavior but? In all honesty, Pearls behavior was more about herself? She shouldn’t have told Connie that she was nothing, but she immediately apologized and tried to reconcile with the kids, and Connie understood. After it all settled, I believe Connie was more confident than ever!

Personally I relate to Pearl because she is definitely coded as neurodivergent – personally I feel she is autistic and has BPD and PTSD but that’s mostly just because I feel like I relate to her so much. Either way, being mentally “ill” can result in behaviors people call abusive, and! Mentally disabled people CAN be abusive! But overall we are just acting how our brain says to and yea.

Its all! Very messed up! But basically: this week has shown Pearl in a negative light and given her realistic qualities and character growth, and people dont like that because they want to pretend that those negative realistic traits dont apply to us. We like to pretend that we have never been “abusive” or jealous and when we are faced with a realistic character like Pearl we have to face ourselves and people dont want to acknowledge that part of them. Everyone wants “realistic well rounded characters” until it happens and makes them realize that everyone can be horrible and say hurtful things without intending them.
