I just saw this on Instagram. Thoughts?
F A C T S !
Yep…people bled for you and you have gall to be black person who is anti Black……..maybe some of you are too comfortable..
It was seriously something like 15-20% of Black people were actively involved in the Civil Rights Movement. Martin Luther King would go to towns and cities and not be able to get a place to stay or speak cause none of the Black people wanted “trouble”.
They rewrite the history to make it seem like everyone was on board right?? Then we think we have to come to some kind of Black consensus to produce valid action. That’s a fallacy.
COME ON 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
Reblogging again for added commentary
This is actually really interesting because it’s kind of mirroring what’s happening now, where a smaller minority is making protest where it needs to happen.
When you think of the negative attitudes that surround them as similar to the dissenters of the civil rights movement, it makes the “everybody was on board” narrative kind of dangerous.
Like, oh? Everybody was on board for civil rights, but since they’re not all out on the streets now for this issue, they must be wrong or everybody would be in on it? But that line of thinking just isn’t true.
They make it out like if there’s only a few, then they’re they ones making trouble and that they should be silent because they’re not the majority. Yet the narrative of the few making progress for the many, has been the vehicle of change.
