Plant Giveaway Possibility

biimyselfandi:

I have a problem.  I like plants a little too much.
I have another problem.  I propagate plants a little too successfully.

I have a lot of plants.  And a lot of seeds.  Can you see where the title of this is starting to fit in maybe kinda-sorta?

I am thinking, THINKINGGGG about doing something along the lines of a plant giveaway.  This will not happen until next year, so it’s all good.  I don’t have experience shipping live plants (nothing that a little bit of common sense and research won’t fix), and I’m definitely not going to risk it happening during this time of year.  Frozen plant babies = the sad.  Besides, I’m in the process of moving into a new home, so I don’t have time to go into all of this plant sharing just yet.

Here are some of the possibilities of plants that I could give away (just thinking off the top of my head):
• cacti and succulents
• orchid divisions
• tropicals (propagated from seed), like palms and stuff
• whatever else I got in my seed bag (I really need to take inventory on these honestly)

Y’all might be wondering, “Why did you get so many plants and seeds if you don’t know what to do with them?”  The answer: I didn’t think I’d do this well with them.  Actually, I take that back.  I was hoping that I could do something like this from my very backyard.  Kind of a botanical open house free-for-all.  You come to my house, I show you plants, you ask me questions about plants, if you want one, donate some money, and it’s yours.

I also get plants for the purpose of learning about who they are.  I just really, really like them.  Those plants are solitary specimens; I only have one of them.  They’re my preciouses.

Seeds are very cheap to buy.  It’s making sure that they can germinate, survive their seedling stage, and start maturing, that is the difficult part.  But when you think about starting to propagate 10 Christmas Palms from seed…well…who the hell has room for that in a house??  No one.  A large greenhouse, yes, but not a normal regular house.  I don’t like the idea of throwing away seeds, either, not when I know there is potential for each one of them to grow into something beautiful.

What I’d like to know is:  is there ANYONE out there that would be interested in something like this?  Again, money isn’t a demand, but a nice gesture as a result for my time.  I just want to make that super clear. I really just want to share plants, and reassure the so-called “black thumbs” in the world that they can grow plants, too.

If you’re interested, please like this post.  If you are friends with people who might be interested in it, reblog this post.  IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS, just ask me.  If you are thinking, “I love plants and this sounds really fun but <insert excuse here as to why you would LOOOOVE to partake in this but are hesitant about it>” statements/questions/comments, JUST ASK ME.  I can possibly find something that will work well for your intended level of care.  That way–you can HAVE the plant and KEEP IT TOO.  FOR YEARS TO COME.

Anyways, just wanted to get that out in the open.  Thanks for your support, guys!
