I get that ‘animated character with a standard model outfit has a whole closet full of that same outfit over and over’ is a standard gag, I get that. But that does not even come close to adequately explaining why Steven has like 200 t-shirts. You have a washing machine, lil buddy. Do you only do laundry twice a year? If so, why bother having a washing machine? And the gems just think it’s normal either way; their clothes are like welded to their bodies or whatever, the poor things have no frame of reference. They just accept it and help him fold his 200 shirts guys…there is a better way…
I like to think he specifically puts off doing laundry until there’s a huge pile to wash so that there’s a reason for them all to sit together and have bonding time folding clothes
plus greg probably can’t afford many new clothes with all the other stuff he needs to buy. he has to cut corners where he can.
well, I think the question is less “why does Steven have a lot of the same shirt?”, since we know he got them all from Greg’s unsold Mr. Universe merchandise, and more “why does he wear all 200 shirts and then wash them all at once”. ‘cause in “Keeping It Together”, they’re folding like 200 shirts
and why is it just shirts and not pants or anything else he’s gotta wash, so its like he specifically saves up the shirts to wash all at once once a year
I think in this particular case, it was because Pearl was temporarily using parts from the washer in Political Power. I’m guessing they were probably too busy to put it back together after the events of Jail Break. So now they’re catching up on all that laundry at once.
There’s so much I love about this scene though. Pearl has clearly done this a lot with a giant stack of shirts, and Steven isn’t doing too bad himself. Garnet’s are nice, but clearly lumpy and uneven, like she doesn’t do this very often. Amethyst either doesn’t care, or doesn’t really see the point of folding clothes, and that pretty much matches the level of organization we’ve seen in her own room.
