When you’re a person of color who dares to say “I deserve better” when it comes to the whole race and representation in media issue, people will line up around the block to waste your time.

Please understand that you don’t have a moral obligation to be a part of someone else’s redemption arc. Nor do you have a moral obligation to be subjected to violence by people in power who don’t like having their comfortable worldview and sense of entitlement challenged.

You don’t have to prove your worth to anyone; you are already worthy. You don’t have to pay with pain for your right to speak out about this. You don’t have to showcase and explain your pain to anyone who thinks you don’t have the right to complain about it.

We DO deserve better. And I believe we can do better.
