WHAT IN FUCK IS THIS DEMON CAT AND WHY IS IT AND WHO ALSO
It’s a baby caracal! They are wild cats from Africa and southern Asia!
I don’t know why it’s indoors; I’m hoping it’s just, like, temporary or whatever and the kitty will ultimately live in a zoo or sanctuary with other caracals.
(OP doesn’t explain where the video came from, and there are so many caracal kitten videos on YouTube I’m having trouble locating this exact one! If I find it I will update you on the circumstances of this little screechgoblin!)
WOW i had to scour through every comment on this video to find you, the only person who has wondered about this baby’s welfare lmao
anyway i found the source (a Ton of sifting and searching but wasnt too bad tbh) and its not a good one. this baby is from a breeder of caracals and servals in kazakhstan who sell their kittens to anyone worldwide who wants one. so this baby isnt a rescue and its not going to a sanctuary and neither are any of the other kittens. theyre being sold and treated as pets.
the breeder’s instagram is @wildcatcom and this particular kitten is going for “9000$” (i asked if thats usd just to be sure but i have yet to receive a reply).
anyway there you go thats the source of this video folks
WILD CATS ARE NOT PETS
all 37 wild cat (including caracals and servals) species’ populations are on a steady decline in the wild and these “pet” wild cats arent helping those numbers at all.
there’s more info (on welfare, behavior, ethics, etc.) in my tag for the private ownership of wild cats here if anyone cares to look through that
Briefly breaking my hiatus for some A+ sleuthing from @panthxra
I knew something was fishy when I saw this video and there you have it.
I’ve got thing else to add except for what’s above.@why-animals-do-the-thing theres the source 😦 poor kitten
Yikes. Thanks for that. This is a cute video, but the situation around it is horrid.
This is why I always have to be wary around animals videos. Especially those of wild animals.
Animals are amazing, and watching their behavior is amazing, but we too often put them in poor situations.
