You know what i noticed about the Crystal Gems recently? Each one represents a different frame of mind.

Pearl is stuck in the past, she is constantly seeing reflections of the past wherever she goes (such as Steven and Rose parallels, various battlefields, gem enemies they fight, she is often reminded of the war and doesn’t fail to tell Steven about the conquests). Pearl can literally project her past for others to see, and her nostalgic relationship with Rose defines her entire existence, even after so many years have gone by. She can’t move on. Her past controls her, and drives her.

Amethyst stays in the present, she strives to define herself by her current actions rather than past or future ones. She “lives in the moment”, and doesn’t think about the consequences of her actions. What’s happening now matters most to her, not what happened back then (which might be a thematic explanation as to why she and Pearl clash so often) and what happens in the future. She’s impulsive, and often doesn’t think, because she lives in the present.

Garnet looks to the future, not only does she have literal future vision, but Garnet can see solutions and outcomes that the other gems don’t see (due to them being wrapped up in their past/present). She’s often the one with the plan, she’s one of the better fighters, Garnet’s ability to see future outcomes – literally and figuratively – benefit the whole team. However, this also mean she doesn’t see the “current picture” easily.
